The Writers' Lounge: The Mission, the Why, and What You Can Expect

I know I’ve been MIA from the blog scene for a while but I’m back. Sometimes we need to take a moment to regain clarity. That’s exactly what happened to me.

If you’ve been rockin’ with me for a while, you know I spent the past two years building a brand under the name Joyfully J. To be honest, I was under the gun and hastily chose that name. I was due to release my first book and knew I wanted to own my site so readers could purchase directly from me.

I’ve always had the reputation for being “Ms. Sunshine” and a few people even believed a smile was permanently etched on my face. Joyfully J. seemed like a natural fit. Yet, here we are, two years later, and I finally feel as if God has given me the brand name I need for the next leg of my journey: The Writers’ Lounge

My Vision + My Why

Growing up, I didn’t feel as if I had much of voice if any. I was told what to do so much that even as an adult, I struggled big time with feeling confident and comfortable when voicing my opinions.

To make matters worse, I felt as if I needed to hide my flaws and any stories that made people know I didn’t have it all together. You see, I’m a Christian and I’ve been a church girl all my life. Based on my experiences, I thought God was looking for perfection from me every day. If I couldn’t give that to Him, I was doomed to go to Hell. In fact, Matthew 5:48 is practically burned in my mind.

It wasn’t until I heard a sermon by Pastor T.D. Jakes that a weight lifted from my body. Pastor Jakes explained that when God called him to become a pastor, he didn’t feel qualified because of his daily struggles and imperfections. He thought pastors had to be perfect. They’re leading a congregation for Pete’s sake! However, a close pastor friend of his said if pastors had to be perfect to share the love and story of Jesus, then every pastor would need to step down.

That was a defining moment for me. That’s when I knew I needed to share stories with other women who felt just like me. These women want to know they can still be used by God and share their stories despite their past and their imperfections. They also want help sharing their stories. They may not know how to self-publish a book or they may need help working through their daily mental blocks. They may need someone to give them a reminder of who they are and why they are qualified to write. They may even need someone to help them remain accountable for their writing goals. That’s why I’m here and that’s why The Writers’ Lounge exists.

Why the Writers’ Lounge Exists

The Writers’ Lounge is an online platform for women to learn the tools needed to discover and face their biggest truths, to create authentic content, and to proudly share their stories. This is a place for real women like you to get the help you need to walk in your purpose and be the writer God called you to be.

This is also a platform where throughout the year, I’ll provide opportunities for you to share your raw, authentic, and inspiring stories to help another sister in her journey. You’ll be able to do that through your personal essays, a collection of poetry, and even flash fiction stories. I can’t wait to see your creations and am so happy that I’ll have a part in helping you share your work!

What You Can Expect

Although the brand name has changed, the mission is still the same. The Writers’ Lounge is here to empower women like you to discover your truths, create authentic content, and share your stories

I’ll continue to do this through writing prompts and challenges, through actionable content, and through workshops and services tailored to meet your writing needs.

Thank you for your continued support, friend. I can’t wait to make some more waves in these Interweb streets with you!
